Making a Commitment
Jan 1973, India nationalized gold mines. Owners became victim. Freshly graduated from college, father died, 4 weeks later got married. Started selling little things to make living. Sold jewelry of mother to get released from hospital when born first baby daughter. Tried 3 businesses without money. 13NOV1975 moved Toronto, wife MBA got job at a bank $600 per month. Instead of telling unemployed, was telling 'Import Export Business' (fake). In a trade show, after a year, a young Canadian asked, how much money do you make from 'Import Export Business'. People can see, fake suit, tie etc. On suggestion of that youth, started car wash with him and making $25-55 a day. From newspaper, got job of selling vacuum cleaner, door to door. They offered $5 per demo. At knocking doors; different experiences; slam, just go, few took pity and called in. In one 'demo' one Indian offered selling insurance. It was Recruiting Campaign from a life insurance company. In the school was not with very good record. Took the chance in exam of life insurance just as an option. Job was offered at $150/week. 200% input. Broke record. In 3 months zero sale and got fired. There are two shortcomings in life; handicap or bad attitude. With bad attitude one can ruin the life of self and family. Doctors, engineers, accountant, attorney, professionals; all have handicaps, chosen their field and restricted world on them. 

If you don't have chosen your field, world is open to you. Got fired and had 30 minutes drive away an appointment. With worst depression, decided to attend the appointment. 7:00 pm to 11:30 pm demo and got $27.58 cheque. In the morning tried to get the job reinstated with commitment. Commitment; not with company but with self. That year $1 Million, next year $ 3 Million, next year $ 5 Million sale. Moved to US in 1984, bought 3 businesses, a company in California, with 0 client and sold at with 500 clients. 

Reason of sharing the experience; a) whole life I was failing, failing, failing and blaming others for my failure. With changing mindset, the whole scenario changed. We ourselves are biggest problem in our life. b) Sometimes in life, you have to be unkind to be kind. Greatest coaches in the world are the greatest critics. Only two relationships; parents and teachers; care for you, the world punishes. There is a difference between a promise and a commitment. Promise is an agreement, we make with the world. Commitment is an agreement, we make with ourselves. Today's world runs away from commitment, don't confuse commitment with confinement. Confinement restricts, commitment frees in life to do many things. Moral commitment and legal commitment are two different things. Moral commitments are far more stronger than legal commitments. Today's world is suffered with commitment phobia. To live a successful life; make commitment to live a life with integrity. We need to make a commitment to ourselves. We need to make a commitment to our family. We need to make a commitment to our organizations and our customers. We need to make a commitment to society. This is the only way to success.

Is Looking Great a Dream

If you look great; world will be happy; world is beneficiary here. But once you got the great vision; now who is beneficiary; we ourselves. Narrow minded thinking means the person is imprisoned in a small box. Compare when you feel happy; in prison and when you are free?
